Poem from Charlie Shakespeare

Deliver us your evil...

Our father who art in heaven. I spit in your face!
For all of their immoral behaviour and the worlds lack of grace.
Your kingdom came, preached your name and the heavens were born above.
You took credit for evolution and became the man to love.

Civilisation realised long ago that it needed morals to survive.
A way of controlling people and giving them better lives.
Religion was born, promises were sworn and people worshipped you.
Like the stories written by Aesop, your fables taught them what to do.

There is nothing so uplifting as having you forgive our debts.
‘No one turns a blind eye quite like the knowledge that God forgets.’
Some call you a different name and prey in a different place.
But surely you give the same beliefs whatever the colour of your face.

A common bond we could have shared for believing in your word,
Separated the globe in sections. And silently, emotionally stirred.
Where there was a problem, argument, war with death and fighting between lands.
Religion was the base of it. And so the people’s blood is on your hands.

The corruption never stops with time and the excuses never cease.
Children forced into ignorance to believe that God is their release.
If you are so special my lord, my God; why so many hypocritical lies?
I suppose it’s as the bible reads; ‘Great men are not always wise.’

I see this problem in modern society and going back to the time of medieval.
So I prey you won’t lead us into temptation and deliver us your evil.
